How Do Machines Create?

How Do Machines Create?: Ages 12-18

Students are introduced to generative AI, starting with an understanding of what a generative adversarial network (GAN) is and how GANs utilize AI to create art and other media. As a class, they will work to create a human representation of a GAN and then use a real GAN to produce a series of unique illustrations for a class book. They will then be exposed to GAN-created deepfakes and other forms of data manipulation. The course concludes with a discussion of some of the ethical implications of AI-produced content, and students are asked to make their own recommendations on how AI can and should be used ethically and responsibly by all.
